Evelyne

Evelyne, a really cool animated short film by Rebecca St. John, for which I helped with the sound design, is now online.

About the film:

"Evelyne is a psychological portrait. Her story of memory and loss is told through puppet animation."

Evelyne will also be screening as part of Les Sommets du cinéma d’animation on December 5th and 6th.

The End of Pinky: FNC

I'm pleased to announce that, after what I hear was a very well-received première at TIFF, The End of Pinky will be screening in the city of its genesis, Montreal. It's part of a showcase of 3D films at the Festival de Nouveau Cinéma (FNC), and will therefore be shown in its full 3D glory. There are two screenings, on October 15th & 17th. Info and tickets can be found here.

Children, It's Alright

Here is the rather bizarre "Children, It's Alright" short I did sound design for earlier this year. It is the story of a community of weird little creatures who worship the moon and are preyed upon by a strange bird-beast. When they interrupt the natural order of things by killing the bird-beast and worshipping the shrine they build with his corpse instead of the moon, things seem to go downhill.

End of Pinky (Teaser)

The End of Pinky is complete! After lots and lots of hard work, by many very talented people, this little gem of a film is finally done. Here's a quick teaser of the 2D version (you'll have to go to a fancy screening with fancy glasses to see it in 3D):

I found this teaser in the article Brendan Kelly at the Gazette wrote about the film, which you can read here: Show Biz Chez Nous: Pinky on the brain

The End of Pinky

I'm pleased to report that work on The End of Pinky is 99.99% done! This is a really cool 3D Animation adaptation of Heather O'Neill's short story by the same name, directed by Claire Blanchet.

I was fortunate enough to get to do the sound design for this, and to work alongside a whole bunch of super-talented folks. It'll still be a minute before it sees the light of day, but when it does, oh boy... Can't wait.

Children, it's Alright - IndieGoGo Fundaraiser

The next film I'll be sound-designing for is a project led by Eric Hanson (in whose "Church of Doubt and Dissent" band I have played drums a few times). This is going to be a really neat animation which will combine traditional 2D, new-fangled 3D, and stop-motion into a great big pile of awesome. It is being funded in part by the NFB's Filmmaker Assistance Program, but in order to more adequately pay the folks working on the film (such as myself), Eric is launching an IndieGoGo campaign. You can watch the (very convincing) pitch video below:

If you're able to contribute to this campaign (and want to), then please do. You can also help simply by sharing the video and/or the link to the IndieGoGo page, or by liking and sharing the associated Facebook Page. Thanks!

Somnium Screening

After screening at several festivals around the world, Somnium is finally playing in Montreal. It's being shown on Thursday, November 29th at 5pm, and again on Sunday, December 2nd, at 7pm, as part of the Sommets du cinéma d’animation de Montréal (Montréal animated film summit). This was a really fun film to do sound design for, and I can't wait to see it on the big screen!

The filmmakers (including myself) will be at the Sunday screening - there's a Facebook event for the occasion here.

Somnium

Here's the latest animation project I worked on as a sound designer. It was finished almost a year ago, but has been on lockdown until now; it was top-secret until it had made its festival and Bravo debuts... Enjoy:

UN Biodiversity Animation: Traditional Knowledge

Here's a short clip I helped put the sound together for. Dave Seitz animated this for the UN's celebration of 2010 - International Year of Biodiversity. Moe Clark sang and arranged the music; we also recorded the singing and drumming of Norman Achneepineskum, Sam Ojeda, Lisa Gagné and Émilie Monnet.

Work For All (Updated)

Here's the final version of the Work For All project (L'Entrevue) Claire and I did for the NFB and HRSDC. It's bilingual, so you can check it out in English or in French. These are in 2D, but there are rumours that a 3D version will be coming soon... Stay tuned!

Work For All

Here's a little sneak-peak of an animation project I've been working on lately, doing sound. It's part of an NFB series called Work For All, which showcases films that challenge racism in today's workplace. Yesterday we were in the studio recording Didier Lucien and Yves Corbeil, who are doing the voices for the characters in the film, "The Interview," directed by Claire Blanchet, with music and sound design by me. You can see some photos of the session here.

The Interview will be launced next week; in the meantime, you can check out the Work For All blog here.

The Wobble Incident Premieres at Pop Montreal... at last!

So I had the (coolest) opportunity this year to work on an experimental film with Claire Blanchet. (She is the coolest also.) We made a peculiar short film (about 4 minutes) about two little characters living in a silent-film world, whose universe 'goes bananas' when it gets invaded by sound. She did the animation (in 3D no less) and I did the music. We both think it's pretty neat. Anywho, the premiere is on October 1st at the Espace Reunion - 6600 Hutchison (Corner Beaubien), also known as the Pop Symposium Headquarters at 8pm. Once again, there's a link to the FB event to the right (NFB making music). Three other super-fantastic films will be showing as well. Aw ye!

Update: now that I know how, there's also a link to the FB event below. Yay!
